Popular Reasons
Why Canadians Travel to India
Family & Diaspora Ties
Canada is home to over 1.8 million people of Indian origin, one of the largest diaspora populations in the world. Millions of Canadians travel to India every year to visit family across Punjab, Gujarat, Kerala, and beyond. The e-Tourist Visa covers VFR (visiting friends and relatives) travel. If you hold a valid OCI card, you do not need a visa at all.
Culture, Heritage & Tourism
From the Taj Mahal to Kerala's backwaters, from Rajasthan's forts to Varanasi's ancient ghats, India offers unparalleled cultural depth. The Golden Triangle (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur) remains the most popular route for Canadian first-time visitors. The 30-day eVisa is ideal for most holiday trips.
Business & Tech
Canada-India bilateral trade continues to grow. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai are key destinations for Canadian tech companies and investors. The e-Business Visa allows attending trade fairs, meetings, and conferences. Multiple entry is available for those making frequent trips throughout the year.

How It Works
Three straightforward steps from form to eVisa

Our form is optimised for Canadian passport holders. We auto-detect your nationality and pre-fill relevant fields. Group applications are supported for up to 10 travellers, perfect for families heading home for weddings or festivals.
Upload Documents
Upload your Canadian passport bio page and a recent photo. Important: Canadian passport photos (50mm x 70mm) are NOT the correct size for India (51mm x 51mm). Upload any photo you have and our team handles the resizing and formatting to meet India's exact specifications.
Expert Review & Receive Visa
A visa specialist checks every detail, including ensuring your name matches your Canadian passport exactly. Your eVisa is delivered by email and works at all 32 designated airports, 6 seaports, and 2 land border crossings across India.

Good to Know
For Indo-Canadians & OCI Cardholders
Important information for Canada's large Indian-origin community
🌐 OCI Card Holders
If you hold a valid Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, you do not need a visa to enter India. OCI cardholders have lifetime multiple-entry rights with no maximum stay limit.
Simply travel with your Canadian passport and OCI card together. If your OCI card has expired, been lost, or needs updating (after a new Canadian passport is issued), you can renew it through the Indian High Commission in Ottawa or Consulates in Toronto and Vancouver.
📄 Dual Citizens & PIO
India does not recognise dual citizenship. If you were born in India and became a Canadian citizen, you should have surrendered your Indian passport. If you still hold an Indian passport, you must enter India on that passport, not on an eVisa linked to your Canadian passport.
Former PIO (Person of Indian Origin) cards have been converted to OCI. If you still have a PIO card and have not yet converted, check with the Indian High Commission about the current status and conversion process.
Insider Tips
India Travel Tips for Canadians
✈️ Getting There
Air Canada flies nonstop Toronto (YYZ) to Delhi (DEL) in about 14 hours. Air India operates Toronto-Delhi and Vancouver-Delhi nonstop routes. A codeshare agreement between Air India and Air Canada expands connectivity from six more Canadian cities via Vancouver. Emirates via Dubai, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, and Qatar Airways via Doha are popular connecting options from all major Canadian airports.
💳 Money & Payments
India uses Indian Rupee (INR). C$1 equals approximately 60-62 INR. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in cities. Carry cash for markets, auto-rickshaws, and smaller towns. Look for no-FX-fee cards to save 2.5% per transaction. ATMs are widespread in cities and most accept Canadian debit cards.
🏥 Health & Insurance
Provincial health coverage (OHIP, MSP, etc.) does NOT cover you in India. Travel insurance is essential. Check travel.gc.ca for the latest India travel advisory. No mandatory vaccinations for Canadians, but Health Canada recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid. Ensure routine immunisations are current before departure.
🌡️ When to Go
Peak season runs October to March with cooler, dry weather across most of India. This aligns with Canadian winter, making it a popular escape. Avoid April to June (extreme heat above 40 C). Monsoon season (July-September) offers lush landscapes and lower prices, but expect heavy rain especially along the west coast and northeast.
What Canadian Travelers Say
“I was planning a two-month trip through Rajasthan and up to Dharamshala, but honestly, the government visa site was a nightmare to navigate from my laptop. It kept rejecting my photo for no clear reason. I decided to give visain.in a shot. They sorted the photo cropping and the technical details for me. Got my approval in three days. If you’re a solo traveler and don't want to risk your itinerary over a paperwork glitch, It’s worth thesmall fee for the peace of mind.”

“My partner and I visit Rishikesh every few years for yoga retreats, and we’ve tried various ways to get our visas in the past. This time, we used visain.in and it was by far the smoothest experience we’ve had. The communication was excellent. They kept us updated at every step so we weren't left wondering. We had our documents ready to print well before our flight from Calgary. Highly recommend their service. ”

“We applied for India visas as a family of four, and managing multiple applications at once was a bit stressful. I was worried about making small mistakes across different forms. Visain.in reviewed each application carefully and even caught some mismatches. That saved us from what could have been a delay. All our visas were approved without any issues, and we had an amazing time in Kerala and Mumbai. It was a very smooth experience overall.”

Q&A
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All Canadian passport holders need a visa to enter India. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival arrangement between Canada and India. However, Canadian citizens are fully eligible for India's eVisa programme, which means you can apply entirely online without visiting the Indian High Commission in Ottawa or the Consulates in Toronto or Vancouver. The eVisa is electronically linked to your passport number. Print the approval email and present it at immigration on arrival. If you hold dual Canadian-Indian citizenship, you must enter India on your Indian passport. The eVisa is not available to Indian passport holders.
Canadian citizens receive an extended maximum stay of 180 days per visit on the e-Tourist Visa (1-year and 5-year options). This is a special provision that applies to nationals of Canada, USA, UK, and Japan. Most other nationalities are limited to 90 days. The 30-day e-Tourist Visa allows a maximum stay of 30 days with double entry. If you need to stay longer than 180 days, you will need to apply for a regular visa through the Indian High Commission.
No. If you hold a valid Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, you do not need a visa to enter India. OCI cardholders have lifetime multiple-entry rights with no maximum stay limit. Travel with your Canadian passport and OCI card together. If your OCI card has expired, been lost, or needs renewal after a new Canadian passport is issued, you can renew it through the Indian High Commission in Ottawa or the Consulates in Toronto and Vancouver. Alternatively, apply for an eVisa using your Canadian passport while your OCI renewal is being processed.
We offer three processing speeds: Express (48 hours), Priority (72 hours), and Standard (96 hours). All times are from receipt of a complete application. Processing time is based on when your complete application is received by our visa specialist team. Times may vary slightly depending on volume. For the fastest results, apply during Indian business hours, which is roughly 10:30pm to 8:30am EST.
No. This is one of the most common mistakes Canadian applicants make. Canadian passport photos are 50mm x 70mm (rectangular), but India requires 51mm x 51mm (square, equivalent to 2x2 inches). If you submit a Canadian passport photo without resizing, it will be flagged or rejected. With VisaIn.in, you can upload any photo and our team will resize and format it to meet India's exact specifications before submission. No need to visit a photo shop.
Refusal Protection is an optional paid add-on available at checkout. If your visa application is refused by the Indian government, this add-on refunds your service fee. It protects you against the rare event of an unexpected visa denial. The add-on costs a small percentage of your service fee and provides peace of mind, especially for first-time applicants or those who are unsure about their eligibility.
Yes. Air Canada operates nonstop flights from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Delhi (DEL), taking about 14 hours. Air India flies nonstop from both Toronto (YYZ) and Vancouver (YVR) to Delhi. A codeshare agreement between the two carriers expands connectivity from additional Canadian cities through Vancouver. For connecting flights, popular options include Emirates via Dubai, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, and Qatar Airways via Doha, all of which connect to multiple Indian cities beyond Delhi.
India Standard Time (IST) is UTC+5:30 and does not observe daylight saving time. During Eastern Standard Time (EST, November-March), India is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead. During Eastern Daylight Time (EDT, March-November), India is 9 hours 30 minutes ahead. For Pacific Time, add 3 more hours. If you apply at 9am EST, it is 7:30pm IST in India.
Yes. VisaIn.in supports group applications for up to 10 travellers in a single booking. Each traveller needs their own passport and photo, but you can manage the entire family's applications from one account. This is particularly useful for Canadian families travelling to India for weddings, festivals, or family reunions. Each person receives their own individual eVisa linked to their passport.
No. Canadian provincial health plans such as OHIP (Ontario), MSP (British Columbia), RAMQ (Quebec), and others provide very limited or no coverage outside Canada. Travel insurance is essential for any trip to India. Make sure your policy covers medical evacuation, as medical facilities in rural India may require transfer to a major city for treatment.
